Mission and ground storage duration, specific space environment severity and material performance requirements are increasing. Cost and time reduction are now also main drivers.
New technologies are implemented and they need a specific analysis: e. g. electric propulsion, additive manufacturing… New constraints such as ecodesign, design for demise, regulations, export control, obsolescence must define the choice and the qualification of the materials. The application in the launchers, satellites and balloons activities are concerned.
This is why the behaviour of materials in the space environment remains a major concern.
This symposium shall promote interactions across scientists and engineers involved in materials for space applications and in space environment effects on materials.
